How to harvest nutrient-dense microgreens in your own home
In short: Landscape designer Jenn Nawada demonstrates the step-by-step process of growing and harvesting microgreens, from seed preparation to final storage, making it easy to cultivate these small plants indoors.
The process begins with preparing the seeds, which may require pre-soaking to encourage germination. To prevent bacterial spread during this stage, a small amount of hydrogen peroxide can be added to the water. Once soaked, the seeds are rinsed, drained, and spread densely over organic soil in a plastic container.
After germination in a warm, dark space, the microgreens require sunlight. They are typically ready to harvest within 7 to 10 days. When harvesting, use sterilized scissors to cut the plants close to the soil to avoid pulling up dirt. Once harvested, they can be kept in the refrigerator for up to a week.
