Can sticky paper replace traditional mortar for a kitchen backsplash?
In short: DIY expert Jenn Largesse tests a modern shortcut by installing adhesive tile mats instead of using traditional thin-set mortar. Watch her process and her honest assessment of this alternative method.
During a full kitchen remodel, Largesse compares the adhesive mat method against a traditional herringbone mosaic tile installation. To ensure a fair comparison, she uses the same tile pattern she previously installed on a fireplace using standard techniques.
The project covers approximately 20 square feet of backsplash. The installation requires painter's plastic sheeting and takes about 8 hours of work spread over 2 days, with a total cost of $550.
