The simple geometry behind a single stitch rainbow loom bracelet

In short: Creating a colorful accessory requires more than just bright rubber bands. It demands a precise sequence of looping, wrapping, and flipping a loom. Mastering this fundamental single stitch pattern serves as the essential foundation for those looking to graduate to much more complex loom designs.

The process begins with the setup of the loom itself. To start, ensure the red arrow on your loom is facing away from you. Using a hook, you begin placing rubber bands one by one across the pegs. You continue this process from one side of the loom to the other, allowing for any variety of colors or patterns you choose.

Once the initial row is complete, the mechanism shifts. You must turn the loom around so the arrow faces the opposite direction. The weaving technique involves skipping the first peg and moving to the second. Using the hook, you grab the existing rubber band, pull it out, and wrap it around the next peg. You repeat this wrapping and pulling motion across the entire loom, effectively interlocking the bands.

A common challenge in this pattern is length. A single row often fails to span the circumference of a wrist, necessitating an extension line. To fix this, you can add approximately six more rubber bands to the end of the sequence. This is achieved by inserting the hook through the end of the bracelet, pulling a new band through, and continuing the loop.

The final step is securing the structure. Once the desired length is reached, a C-clip is used to hold the ends together. You hook one end of the C-clip into the final rubber band and connect it to the opposite end of the bracelet, completing the single stitch loop.
