NASA has partnered with composer Henry Dehlinger and the National Philharmonic to create Cosmic Cycles, a multimedia project blending orchestral music with space imagery. This collaboration explores the unique characteristics of our planetary siblings, from the sulfuric clouds of Venus to the volcanic activity on Jupiter’s moon, Io.
The project, titled Cosmic Cycles: A Space Symphony, represents a unique fusion of scientific data and artistic expression. Composed by Henry Dehlinger, the work consists of seven multimedia pieces that focus on the Sun, Earth, Moon, the various planets, and the broader cosmos. By marrying music with visual data, the project aims to take audiences on a transformative voyage through the universe, highlighting the immense variety found within our own solar system.
Released on May 11, 2023, the Planetary Fantasia segment specifically invites viewers to contemplate the rarity of Earth by showcasing the extreme environments of its neighbors. These worlds offer a glimpse into the diverse possibilities of the universe, featuring phenomena such as ancient riverbeds on Mars, brilliant auroras on Saturn, and the harsh, sulfuric-acid clouds that shroud Venus. The project was produced by James Tralie of ADNET Systems and Wade Sisler of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.
