A classroom connection from 220 miles above the Earth
In short: Watch how an astronaut and former teacher bridged the gap between the International Space Station and a local school district in North Carolina.
Inside the Harmony node, Commander Alan Poindexter, alongside Mission Specialists Clay Anderson and Stephanie Wilson, were accompanied by astronaut Dottie Metcalf-Lindenburger throughout the STS-131 voyage. From this vantage point, she spoke via phone with elementary and middle school students in Gibsonville, North Carolina.
Metcalf-Lindenburger was one of three educators chosen for the 2004 Educator Astronaut Class, a program designed to bring teachers into space as mission specialists.
