The mission involves moving the 7,000-pound spacecraft from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California to the Kennedy Space Center. To ensure safety, the team utilized a combination of semitruck transport and a United States Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircraft. The scale of the logistics is immense; beyond the spacecraft itself, the team had to ship enough ground support equipment to occupy 14 semitrailers.
The Europa Clipper mission is designed to investigate Jupiter's moon, Europa. Scientists are interested in the moon's subsurface ocean, which represents one of the solar system's most promising environments for potential life. The spacecraft is scheduled for an October 2024 launch, with an expected arrival in the Jupiter system in 2030.
