Why astronauts train in the dark, damp depths of Sardinian caves
In short: Space exploration requires more than just technical skill; it demands psychological resilience and seamless teamwork in extreme environments. This video follows astronauts as they undergo rigorous underground training to prepare for the challenges of uncharted territory.
The European Space Agency utilizes a specialized program called CAVES to simulate the difficulties of space missions. By exploring caves on the island of Sardinia, astronauts practice solving complex problems and maintaining safety protocols within multicultural teams.
This training focuses on human behavior and performance in isolated, unpredictable settings. It ensures that when explorers face unknown environments, they can rely on established procedures and collective cooperation to succeed.
