How Europe's weather satellites keep a constant watch over two continents
In short: This footage captures the 2015 launch of the MSG-4 satellite from French Guiana. It demonstrates the critical infrastructure used to monitor weather patterns across Europe and Africa with high-frequency imagery.
Launched on 15 July 2015 from Europe's Spaceport in French Guiana, the MSG-4 satellite is part of the Meteosat Second Generation series. These satellites are designed and developed by the European Space Agency (ESA) and managed by Eumetsat to provide essential meteorological data.
The system provides full-disc images of Europe and Africa every 15 minutes. Furthermore, it offers 'rapid scan' imagery specifically for Europe at five-minute intervals, ensuring highly frequent updates for weather monitoring.
