A new cargo mission launches to resupply the International Space Station this week

The Progress 93 spacecraft is launching from Kazakhstan to deliver essential supplies to the International Space Station. This mission highlights the logistics required to maintain human presence in orbit, detailing the journey from liftoff to the eventual disposal of station waste.

On Thursday, Sept. 11, a Soyuz rocket will carry the Progress 93 cargo ship from the Baikonur Cosmodrome. The vessel is tasked with delivering about three tons of fuel, food, and various supplies to the crew currently aboard the International Space Station.

Following a two-day transit, the craft is set to dock autonomously with the Zvezda module on Saturday, Sept. 13. It will stay attached for roughly six months, serving as a receptacle for station trash before it is sent to burn up during atmospheric re-entry.
