How Expedition 31 astronauts shared life and research from the International Space Station
In short: NASA astronauts Don Pettit and Joe Acaba, alongside ESA astronaut Andre Kuipers, discuss their daily lives and scientific work while orbiting Earth. These interviews offer a direct look at the realities of long-duration spaceflight as the crew prepares for their upcoming return to the surface.
In June 2012, the Expedition 31 crew participated in in-flight interviews with the Houston Chronicle and NPR's Science Friday. The conversation highlighted the unique environment of the International Space Station, where the crew conducted research while living in microgravity.
At the time of the interviews, Pettit and Kuipers were nearing the end of a six-and-a-half-month mission, with a scheduled landing on July 1. Acaba, however, was set to continue his stay on the station until mid-September, illustrating the staggered nature of crew rotations and the ongoing nature of orbital research.
