Why the universe forces time to bend to keep light constant
In short: If light always travels at the same speed, something in our reality must be flexible. This video explains why time itself is the variable that adjusts to preserve the laws of physics.
The constancy of light speed is a fundamental premise of physics: every observer measures light at approximately 300,000 kilometers per second, regardless of their own motion. To understand why this happens, the video uses the concept of a 'light clock'—a system where a photon bounces between two mirrors. Because the speed of light is fixed, the time it takes for a photon to complete a tick is tied directly to the distance between those mirrors.
When an observer moves relative to this clock, the distance the photon must travel changes, yet its speed cannot. Consequently, the interval of time between ticks must shift to accommodate the fixed speed. This demonstrates that time is not an absolute constant but reshapes itself to ensure the speed of light remains unbeatable.
