The century-long journey to Saturn depends on one core power source
In short: While Mars is our next frontier, Saturn remains a distant goal. This video explores the timeline for human arrival at the ringed planet and the specific technological hurdles we must overcome to get there.
Based on a study of tens of thousands of space exploration articles, researchers modeled the most likely dates for manned missions departing from cislunar space. A touchdown on a primary Jovian moon is projected for 2101 to 2121, while Saturn is slated for arrival during the 2129–2153 period.
The primary bottleneck for these long-distance missions is energy. The analysis indicates that unless a superior alternative is discovered, nuclear energy is the essential requirement for reaching the outer solar system within the next few centuries.
