Manchester City's 2017–18 Centurions became the first Premier League side to reach 100 points
Pep Guardiola's Manchester City finished the 2017–18 season with 100 points, 32 wins and 106 goals, all Premier League records. After a draw against Everton in August they won eighteen league games in a row, took first place and never let it go, sealing the title with five matches still to play.
The records kept coming: 16 away wins, a goal difference of plus 79, a winning margin of 19 points, and only 153 minutes spent trailing in any match all season. Across all competitions they set English records for consecutive away wins and overall wins, and the League Cup made it a domestic double, as in 2014.
There was one dramatic delay. On 7 April City needed only to beat Manchester United in the derby to clinch the title, and led 2–0 at half-time. United came back to win 3–2. A week later United lost at home to bottom club West Bromwich Albion, and City were champions anyway.
Elsewhere, Mohamed Salah scored 32 goals for Liverpool, a new record for a 38-game season, edging past the 31 of Cristiano Ronaldo, Alan Shearer and Luis Suárez. Manchester United finished second with 81 points, their best since Alex Ferguson left. Defending champions Chelsea lost their opening home game to Burnley, the first time holders had done that, slid to fifth, and dismissed Antonio Conte. Arsène Wenger announced his departure from Arsenal after a sixth-place finish.
Burnley took seventh, their best finish since 1973–74, earning their first European campaign in 50 years. For the first time since 2011–12, all three promoted clubs, Newcastle, Brighton and Huddersfield, survived. The season also brought sleeve sponsors to club shirts and a panel that reviewed footage after games to ban players who dived to win penalties or get opponents sent off.
