After three years of development, Mark Rober demonstrates a motorized dartboard that moves in real-time to intercept your throw, ensuring you never miss the center.
The system utilizes a Vicon motion capture system to track the dart's x, y, and z positions while it is in flight. By processing this data through MATLAB using regression analysis, the technology predicts the dart's eventual landing point.
To execute the interception, six stepper motors attached to the back of the board use fishing line to reposition the target. The entire adjustment occurs in approximately 400ms, allowing the board to reach the correct spot before the dart hits.
