Constructing a facility in Antarctica requires solving unique logistical and environmental challenges. The Discovery Building, a new facility at the Rothera Research Station, is designed to withstand the brutal Antarctic climate. To prevent snow accumulation around the structure, engineers installed a specialized wind deflector along the southern roofline. This feature redirects the predominant northeasterly winds to scour snow away from the building's footprint.

Structural stability is achieved through 76 anchors, with the building oriented along its longest axis from east to west. The facility is scheduled to open in April 2025, serving as a critical hub for the British Antarctic Survey.
