How a multibillion-dollar empire vanished into thin air overnight

The rise and fall of Tingo Mobile founder Dozy Mmobuosi, a London-based tycoon who built a massive stock market valuation on claims that may have been entirely fabricated.

Dozy Mmobuosi, also known as Mmobuosi Odogwu Banye, founded Tingo Mobile, a company that purportedly provided mobile phones to rural farmers in Nigeria and developed a fintech super app. The business grew rapidly, achieving a multibillion-dollar valuation and securing a listing on the Nasdaq stock exchange in New York.

US regulators have accused Mmobuosi of orchestrating a staggering fraud, alleging that his businesses, as presented to the public, likely never existed. The scale of the deception became apparent when Mmobuosi attempted to purchase the Sheffield United football team but failed to provide evidence of his claimed financial resources.
