The concrete oval where Joey Logano conquered the 2026 Bass Pro Shops Night Race
In short: Under the lights of Bristol Motor Speedway, the 2026 Bass Pro Shops Night Race delivered high-stakes drama. Beyond the intense competition for the NASCAR Chase, the event featured unexpected weather cancellations and a post-race altercation that kept fans talking long after the checkered flag.
The contest took place at the Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee, on its 0.533-mile concrete oval. Due to inclement weather, both the practice session and qualifying were canceled, leading to Kyle Larson being awarded the pole position via NASCAR's pandemic formula with a score of 3.000.
The race itself lasted 3 hours, 2 minutes, and 20 seconds, with drivers maintaining an average speed of 87.697 miles per hour. Joey Logano emerged victorious, followed by Kyle Larson in second and Carson Hocevar in third. Completing the top five were Christopher Bell and Ty Gibbs; meanwhile, the top ten featured Ryan Preece, William Byron, Denny Hamlin, Bubba Wallace, and Josh Berry. Throughout the race, there were 13 lead changes involving 6 different drivers.
The atmosphere at Bristol is unique due to its extraordinarily steep banking, all-concrete surface, and stadium-like seating, which has earned it a reputation as one of the loudest tracks on the NASCAR schedule. The venue has a diverse history, having hosted the MLB Speedway Classic in August 2025 and the college football Battle at Bristol in September 2016. The 2026 race was notable for the implementation of a short track package, a departure from the intermediate package used in previous years. Tension remained high even after the finish, as Ryan Blaney and Hocevar engaged in an altercation following an incident on lap 457.
