Ugo Ugochukwu clinches the 2026 FIA Formula 3 Drivers' Championship
In short: In a season defined by technical parity and unexpected disruptions, the battle for the third tier of the FIA Global Pathway came down to the wire. From cancelled rounds in Bahrain to high-speed collisions in Melbourne, the 2026 campaign tested the resilience of both drivers and teams alike.
The 2026 FIA Formula 3 Championship marked the seventeenth season of Formula 3 racing, continuing its role as a critical stepping stone in the FIA Global Pathway. As a spec series, the competition relied on identical Dallara F3 2025 chassis, powered by 3.4 L naturally-aspirated V6 engines developed by Mecachrome. This technical uniformity ensured that driver skill, rather than mechanical advantage, remained the primary differentiator on the grid.
The season was not without significant volatility. A scheduled round at the Bahrain International Circuit was cancelled due to the Iran war, forcing the series to adapt. To compensate for the lost races, the season finale at the newly-built Madring included an additional qualifying session and a second feature race. This adaptation followed a shift in the racing calendar, where Formula 3 and Formula 2 replaced the Imola Circuit round with a second race in Spain.
Ugo Ugochukwu, driving for Campos Racing, secured the Drivers' Championship after a commanding performance that saw him finish second in the final race in Madrid. His victory was part of a dominant season for Campos Racing, who entered the year as the reigning Teams' Champions from the 2025 Monza Circuit finale and successfully defended their title in 2026. The championship also highlighted a broader industry shift toward sustainability; while 2025 utilized Aramco-supplied fuel with 70% sustainable components, the series is working toward a goal of adopting fully synthetic fuels by 2027.
