In short: Allison Fisher, widely considered the greatest female pool player in history, redefined the sport through an unparalleled career spanning snooker and nine-ball. From her early start in England to becoming a dominant force on the American circuit, her journey reveals the relentless pursuit of excellence in a male-dominated arena.

Born in 1968, Allison Fisher began playing pool at age seven and secured her first world title by seventeen. Her early career was defined by her efforts to break into the professional men's snooker tour in the 1980s. Although she faced significant hurdles and eventually lost her professional status in 1997, these experiences shaped her transition to the United States. Feeling that she lacked the respect afforded to her male counterparts, she joined the Women's Professional Billiards Association (WPBA) Tour in 1995, where she would eventually achieve legendary status.

Fisher's dominance on the WPBA circuit was absolute. She held the top-ranked position from September 1996 to June 2001, and again annually from 2002 to 2007. Her record includes over 80 national titles and 11 world titles. Notably, she became the highest-earning player on multiple occasions, surpassing both male and female competitors. Her prowess earned her the nickname 'the Duchess of Doom' and led to her induction into the Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame in 2009.

Beyond her competitive achievements, Fisher navigated complex transitions in her professional identity. Originally representing the United Kingdom, she later acquired U.S. citizenship and received formal approval to represent the United States in international competitions, a change finalized in early 2024. Her career concluded in 2026 following a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease. Throughout her life, she received numerous accolades, including an MBE in 2022, cementing her legacy as a transformative figure in cue sports who consistently challenged the boundaries of professional play.
