In short: Often defined by her high-profile past relationship with Prince Harry, Chelsy Davy has built a distinct professional identity. From practicing law in London to founding luxury brands, her journey reflects a deliberate move away from the spotlight of the British royal family toward independent entrepreneurship.

Born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, in 1985, Chelsy Davy’s background is rooted in a family with significant landholdings. Her father, Charles Davy, was a South African safari farmer who reportedly owned 800,000 acres in Zimbabwe. His business ties to the controversial politician Webster Shamu eventually led to public criticism, resulting in Charles selling his share in the business.

Davy’s academic and professional path is marked by rigorous discipline. After attending Stowe School in Buckinghamshire, she earned an economics degree from the University of Cape Town in 2006, followed by a law degree (LLB) from the University of Leeds in 2009. She transitioned into the legal profession as a solicitor at the London firm Allen & Overy, working there from September 2011 until late 2014.

Her entrepreneurial ventures began in earnest after studying at the Gemological Institute of America. In July 2016, she launched the jewellery brand Aya. By 2020, she expanded her business interests into the luxury travel sector with the launch of Aya Africa. This shift toward independent business ownership followed her decision to end her five-year relationship with Prince Harry in 2009, a decision she later attributed to incompatible life choices.

The couple's history has also been central to legal debates regarding media ethics. During a 2021 BBC documentary, private investigator Gavin Burrows asserted that media organisations had targeted Davy's communications while searching for details regarding Prince Harry. While these claims were disputed by certain news organizations, the period was marked by allegations of unlawful information gathering regarding the couple's whereabouts.
