In short: In 2010, Matt Lucas and David Walliams traded their usual sketches for a biting spoof of British travel documentaries. By mimicking the observational style of 'Airport' and 'Airline', they captured the absurdity of modern air travel through a lens of hilarious, high-stakes incompetence.

Launched on 25 December 2010 on BBC One, 'Come Fly with Me' is a British mockumentary that follows the frantic life within a major airport. The series centers on three distinct, fictional airlines that satirize different sectors of the industry. There is FlyLo, a low-cost carrier owned by the flamboyant Omar Baba, which uses unorthodox schemes like £1 flights to New York City—offset by a £480 booking fee—to cut costs. Then there is Our Lady Air, an Irish low-cost airline that saves money by landing in distant locations, such as flying passengers to Barcelona via Ireland with a 2,300km coach transfer. Finally, there is the premium 'Great British Air', a flag carrier known for its elite first-class service featuring champagne and chocolates.

The show's humor is driven by a diverse cast of characters, many played by the creators themselves. These include the bigoted immigration officer Ian Foot, the gushing executive liaison officer Moses Beacon, and the hapless holidaymakers Peter and Judith Surname, who recount surreal, traumatic travels—including surviving a plane crash in Peru—with a deadpan calm. The series also features celebrity cameos, including Geri Halliwell, David Schwimmer, and Rupert Grint.

Despite the show's popularity and a second series commission announced on 28 January 2011, the series reached a sudden end. Although a 'making of' special titled 'Come Fly on the Wall' aired in February 2011, the franchise was cancelled indefinitely. In early 2013, David Walliams confirmed that a second series would never air, following Matt Lucas's refusal to return to the project.
