In short: The name Green Archers wasn't a marketing choice; it was a literal description of the team's precision. Born from a 1939 upset victory, the moniker stuck as reporters marveled at the players' accuracy, eventually evolving into one of the most dominant basketball legacies in Philippine collegiate history.

The identity of the De La Salle Green Archers was forged during the 1939–40 NCAA Season 16. After the team secured an upset victory against their archrivals, Ateneo, to claim their first seniors' division championship, news reporters coined the name. The nickname was specifically chosen to highlight the players' 'accurate shooting skills,' a nod to the precision required to hit the basket consistently under pressure.

The program's trajectory shifted significantly in the 1980s. After participating in the NCAA for 57 years—a tenure that ended in 1981 following a violent game against the Letran Knights—the team joined the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) in 1986. This transition marked the beginning of a modern era of dominance. Since joining the UAAP, the Green Archers have secured 11 titles, including a notable four-year championship streak from 1998 to 2001.

The team's historical consistency is reflected in its record-breaking appearances. They hold the record for the most finals appearances in the UAAP with 19, including a remarkable nine-year consecutive run from 1994 to 2002. This longevity is supported by a robust management structure led by figures like Raffy Villavicencio and patron Enrique K. Razon, alongside a coaching staff headed by Topex Robinson, who took the helm in 2023.

Beyond domestic success, the Green Archers have expanded their reach into international competition. They have secured titles in various preseason cups, including the Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup and the Pinoyliga Collegiate Cup. Their recent global footprint includes sweeping the 2024 World University Basketball Series in Tokyo and winning the 2025 AsiaBasket College Campus Tour, proving that their 'accurate' legacy translates to the international stage.
