The hidden architect who reshaped Britain’s most beloved comedy duo

In short: While Morecambe and Wise became household names, their transformation into television icons was driven by a single man's tireless scriptwriting. This drama explores the grueling work behind the scenes of 'The Golden Triangle.'

For over a decade, Liverpool market stall trader Eddie Braben served as the primary writer for Morecambe and Wise. In 1969, at the urging of BBC Head of Light Entertainment Bill Cotton, Braben met the duo and producer John Ammonds to find their television potential. Despite an initial lack of chemistry, Braben identified a unique spark in the music hall act that could be translated to the screen.

The success of Eric and Ernie was built on years of 'hard graft' and perfectionism. Braben managed massive scripting workloads for annual series and Christmas specials while enduring a grueling commute from Liverpool to London. The film highlights both the immense cultural success of their 1977 Christmas Show and the personal exhaustion and pressure Braben endured to make them national favorites.
