In short: Born in 2001, Brazilian striker Igor Jesus has navigated a swift career trajectory from Coritiba’s youth system to the Premier League. After finding success in Brazil and a stint abroad, his recent performances in international club competitions have cemented his reputation as a formidable goalscorer on the global stage.
Igor Jesus Maciel da Cruz, born on 25 February 2001, began his professional journey at Coritiba, where he joined the youth ranks at age 13. His senior debut occurred on 23 January 2019 against Maringá, followed quickly by his first senior goal on 30 January 2019 against Athletico Paranaense. By May 2019, he had made his national league debut in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B. His early development in Brazil set the foundation for a career that would eventually span multiple continents and high-stakes tournaments.
After a period playing abroad with Shabab Al Ahli, Jesus returned to Brazil to join Botafogo in July 2024. His time at the club was marked by significant achievements, including winning the Libertadores and the 2024 Brazilian Championship. In July 2025, Jesus signed a four-year contract with the Premier League club Nottingham Forest for a reported fee of £10,000,000. His impact in England was immediate; by September 2025, he had scored a brace against Swansea City in the EFL Cup and another against Real Betis in the Europa League. His performance in the 2025–26 season earned him recognition as a joint top scorer in the UEFA Europa League and a place in its Team of the Season. His international profile also grew, receiving his first call-up to the Brazil national team in October 2024 for World Cup qualification matches.
