How a Polish leaflet distributor became a global logistics giant through automated parcel lockers
In short: Founded in 2006 by Rafał Brzoska, InPost transformed from a niche Polish courier into an international logistics powerhouse. By pioneering self-service parcel lockers, the company captured the e-commerce boom, eventually attracting multi-billion dollar acquisitions and sponsoring major sports teams across Europe, including the Premier League and the Tour de France.
The origins of InPost trace back to 1999, when Rafał Brzoska established the Integer.pl Group to distribute leaflets. Recognizing a gap in the logistics market, Brzoska launched InPost S.A. as a subsidiary in 2006. The company’s defining innovation arrived in 2009 with the introduction of InPost Lockers—automated machines that allowed customers to send and receive parcels without human interaction. This model proved highly scalable, and by 2015, the company had expanded into full courier services and debuted on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.
The COVID-19 pandemic served as a massive catalyst for the company’s growth. As lockdowns forced a surge in online shopping, demand for contactless delivery skyrocketed. In January 2021, InPost went public on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange, raising 2.8 billion euros and achieving a valuation of 9.5 billion euros. This capital fueled an aggressive international expansion strategy, including the 516 million euro acquisition of French logistics firm Mondial Relay in July 2021 and a 30% stake in the British company Menzies in 2023.
The company's rapid growth has not been without legal friction. In April 2025, InPost acquired a 95.5% stake in the UK delivery service Yodel. This move was immediately challenged in the High Court, which issued an order preventing InPost from integrating the business or restructuring its workforce. The dispute centered on allegations that Yodel’s former owner had forged signatures on warrants to regain control. In December 2025, the court ruled in InPost's favor, clearing the path for the company to phase out the Yodel brand. By February 2026, the company’s trajectory culminated in its acquisition by a consortium led by FedEx and Advent International for $9.2 billion.
Today, InPost operates a vast network of over 20,000 lockers and 18,000 pick-up points. Beyond logistics, the brand has become a fixture in European sports, sponsoring the Poland men's national football team, Newcastle United, and the Tour de France. Its mobile app, launched in 2019, remains a vital tool for millions of users, cementing the company’s role in modern e-commerce infrastructure.
