From Broadway stages to the starship Enterprise, Isa Briones is redefining versatile performance.
In short: Isa Briones has built a career that defies easy categorization, moving seamlessly from the touring company of Hamilton to the synthetic androids of Star Trek: Picard. Whether portraying genetically engineered daughters or abrasive medical interns, her work consistently highlights the power of nuanced performance in both science fiction and theater.
Born in London to musical theater actors, Isa Briones began her professional journey early, modeling in New York City at age three and entering feature films by 2008. Her upbringing was steeped in performance, with her parents providing her initial training in acting and singing. This foundation led her to the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, where she majored in theatre and musical theatre, eventually earning critical acclaim for her stage work, including an Ovation Award for her role in Next to Normal.
Briones gained significant recognition for her complex roles in Star Trek: Picard, where she portrayed multiple synthetic characters, including Dahj and Soji. Her ability to navigate these roles earned praise for her evolving performance, which critics noted improved throughout the series. Beyond science fiction, she has maintained a strong presence on Broadway, notably debuting as Eurydice in Hadestown alongside her father, Jon Jon Briones. Her stage career remains a constant, with roles in productions like Grease and the 2026 musical Just in Time.
In recent years, Briones has leveraged her platform to advocate for authentic representation. As Dr. Trinity Santos in the medical drama The Pitt, she successfully campaigned to adjust her character's name to reflect her Filipino heritage. This role, which earned her an ensemble award at the 32nd Actor Awards, allows her to highlight the significant contributions of Filipino professionals to the American healthcare system. By integrating her cultural background into her work, Briones continues to challenge industry norms, ensuring that her performances resonate with both emotional depth and social relevance.
