How a professional football club rebranded to honor the sacred heritage of Central Kalimantan
In short: Formerly known as Farmel and Adhyaksa, the newly christened Isenmulang Kalteng F.C. has relocated to Palangka Raya. By adopting a name rooted in the local Ngaju language and embracing the hornbill as its official mascot, the club seeks to forge a deep, culturally resonant connection with the Central Kalimantan community.
The journey of Isenmulang Kalteng F.C. is a study in rapid evolution and strategic rebranding. Founded on 20 January 2020 as Farmel, the club initially aimed to compete in the third-tier Liga 3. After navigating early disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the team began to climb the Indonesian football hierarchy. By the 2023–24 season, under the stewardship of the Public Prosecution Service of Indonesia, the club operated as Adhyaksa Farmel Football Club and successfully secured the Liga 3 title. This period of collaboration set the stage for their eventual promotion to the Super League on 8 May 2026, following a decisive 0–1 victory against Persipura Jayapura.
Following their promotion, the club underwent a significant transformation to align with their new home in Palangka Raya. Moving their base to the Tuah Pahoe Stadium, the organization sought to integrate more deeply with the local population. This effort culminated in a name change to Isenmulang Kalteng, a shift approved during the 2026 PSSI Ordinary Congress. The name itself is a deliberate nod to the province's cultural identity, utilizing a phrase from the native Ngaju language. To further solidify this local bond, the club adopted the hornbill—a bird endemic to Borneo and a sacred symbol in Dayak culture—as its official mascot.
Despite their recent successes, the club’s history is marked by controversy. During their time in Liga 3, several matches were marred by disputes regarding refereeing decisions. Notable incidents included a protest by PSBL Langsa and a match against Bandung United where players effectively conceded after receiving multiple red cards. Furthermore, a 3–0 victory over Persikota Tangerang in the 2021–22 season was clouded by accusations of questionable offside calls and penalties. As they enter the Super League, the club is supported by Kalteng Mania, a dedicated fan group that previously backed other regional teams, signaling a fresh chapter for football in Central Kalimantan.
