How a Brazilian fighter chose England to reach his full potential
In short: Johnny Walker's path to the UFC was anything but linear. After a failed attempt to train in Scotland due to unpaid wages, the Brazilian heavyweight moved to England, ultimately choosing to represent his new home to unlock his true fighting potential.
Born in Brazil on March 30, 1992, Johnny Walker began his professional mixed martial arts career in December 2013. His early years were spent competing in his native country, where he built a significant record of ten victories and three defeats, with every single win coming via stoppage. This early momentum eventually led him to the international stage. During this initial period, he primarily fought within the Brazilian circuit. He achieved these early results before seeking opportunities abroad.
Walker's ascent to the UFC was secured through Dana White's Contender Series in August 2018, where he defeated Henrique da Silva by unanimous decision. Since joining the UFC roster, he has become known for his explosive finishes, earning multiple 'Performance of the Night' bonuses. His notable victories include a first-round knockout of Khalil Rountree Jr. in November 2018 and a lightning-fast 15-second knockout of Justin Ledet in February 2019. His rapid success continued when he secured a third consecutive bonus for his win over Misha Cirkunov. He also achieved a quick victory against Justin Ledet.
His career has been marked by both rapid successes and significant setbacks. While he has secured impressive wins, such as his August 2025 technical knockout of Zhang Mingyang, he has also faced challenges, including a controversial no-contest against Magomed Ankalaev in October 2023 following an illegal knee. As of October 3, 2026, Walker remains a competitive force in the UFC heavyweight division, ranked #12 in the Meta UFC heavyweight rankings. He also suffered a technical knockout loss to Corey Anderson in late 2019. Additionally, he faced losses to Nikita Krylov and Thiago Santos via unanimous decision.
Beyond the octagon, Walker maintains a professional presence as a brand ambassador for Spribe alongside his brother, Valter Walker, who also competes in the UFC heavyweight division. Both brothers have established themselves within the heavyweight division. They currently hold a multi-year branding partnership with the company Spribe.
