A 3-minute window: The final seconds of K2 Airways Flight 1732
In short: When a cargo plane loses its navigation, the transition from routine flight to catastrophe can happen in mere minutes. On July 7, 2026, a Boeing 737 freighter vanished over the Arabian Sea, leaving behind a haunting final transmission and a complex deep-sea recovery mission.
K2 Airways Flight 1732 was a scheduled cargo flight traveling from Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, to Karachi, Pakistan. Having served Aeroflot since 1999, this 27-year-old Boeing 737-4M0(BDSF) freighter moved between various operators, including ASL Airlines Belgium, TNT Airways, and Garuda Indonesia. It was finally acquired by AerCap and leased to K2 Airways in 2024.
The crisis began at approximately 9:18 p.m. local time, about 155 nautical miles from Karachi. The crew reported a navigational system malfunction to Air Traffic Control. Radar evidence indicated a sharp heading shift and quick drop at 9:21 pm, merely three minutes after guidance from controllers began. The final known radio communication from the crew was the phrase "rolling or floating, 1732" before all contact was lost.
Data from Flightradar24 provided a harrowing look at the aircraft's final movements. From a cruising altitude of 35,000 feet, the plane fluctuated between 29,500 and 36,675 feet before a final descent. The last satellite data point recorded at 9:21:59 p.m. placed the aircraft at 1,100 feet with a staggering vertical speed of -22,400 feet per minute.
The search for the five crew members faced extreme challenges, including rough seas and the monsoon season. Wreckage was first located 53 nautical miles off the coast of Ormara 12 hours after the disappearance. It took until September 29, 2026, to locate a flight recorder at a depth of 3,200 meters using specialized equipment from the National Engineering and Scientific Commission. The incident has sparked calls from families for a transparent, independent investigation into potential negligence.
