The lineage of the Power Rangers spans across time and dimensions
In short: The original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers weren't just a team; they were a legacy. From ancient ancestors in the Old West to multi-dimensional mentors and sentient androids, the franchise's lore builds a complex web of heroism that stretches far beyond the screen.
The core team of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is defined by specific roles and unique weaponry. Jason Lee Scott served as the original Red Ranger and team leader, wielding the Power Sword and a transforming blaster. He was succeeded by Rocky DeSantos as the second Red Ranger. Similarly, Zachary "Zack" Taylor was the original Black Ranger, later succeeded by Adam Park. The team also featured Kimberly Hart (Pink), Billy Cranston (Blue), and Thomas "Tommy" Oliver, who famously transitioned from the Green Ranger to the White Ranger.
The lore extends into ancestral history and alternate timelines. Rocky, Adam, Aisha, and Billy descend from the Old West figures known as the 'Wild West Rangers', who were named Rocko, Abraham, Miss Alicia, and William. They possess outfits nearly identical to their descendants, save for cowboy attire. Additionally, Tommy Oliver has a specific ancestor known as the White Stranger, a crime-fighter reminiscent of the Lone Ranger. These connections suggest a hereditary or destiny-based element to the Rangers' powers.
The source of these powers is rooted in deep history and extraterrestrial origins. Zordon, an inter-dimensional being trapped in a time warp, served as the mentor who bestowed powers upon the Rangers. He led a war against evil 10,000 years before the series began, famously imprisoning Rita in a lunar dumpster. The original Power Coins and Dinozords were actually created by Ninjor, though Zordon distributed them. The team is supported by Alpha 5, a sentient android from the planet Edenoi, and Prince Dex, a warrior from that same planet leading a resistance against the dictator Count Dregon.
Even the show's recurring antagonists and side characters have complex arcs. The bullies Bulk and Skull, initially antagonists at Angel Grove High School, eventually joined the Junior Police Force under Lt. Stone. The narrative also accounts for continuity nuances, such as the 'Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers' miniseries, where Billy Cranston serves as the leader because he is the only original member to regain his true age.
