Born Mario Barwuah in Palermo to Ghanaian immigrants, Balotelli's early life was marked by significant upheaval. At age three, due to his biological family's inability to afford healthcare, he entered foster care with the Balotelli family in Concesio. He eventually adopted their surname and, after waiting until his 18th birthday, officially gained Italian citizenship in August 2008.
His professional ascent was meteoric. After starting at Lumezzane, he joined Inter Milan in 2007, where he achieved a historic treble in 2010. However, his time in Italy was often marred by disciplinary issues and racial abuse from Juventus fans.
