From sociology student to a multi-platform media powerhouse
In short: Nella Rose didn't set out to be a household name. While studying for a degree she never wanted, she built a digital empire that led her from YouTube vlogs to hosting major red carpets and starring in reality television.
The trajectory of Nella Rose (born Ornella Rose Hollela) illustrates the modern shift toward creator-led media careers. Born in Belgium in 1997 to a family of Congolese descent, she moved to the UK at age seven. Her path to fame was not linear; she began her university studies in sociology at the University of Leicester in 2015. Though she admitted she would have preferred immediate employment over academia, she pursued the degree to satisfy family expectations, graduating with a 2:1.
While navigating her academic requirements, Rose launched her YouTube channel in 2016. What began as vlogs, hair tutorials, and fashion hauls evolved into a professional career that granted her access to celebrity interviews and high-profile events she otherwise might not have reached. This digital foundation paved the way for diverse media roles, including hosting the podcast Pressed on BBC Radio 1Xtra in 2019 and becoming the face of MTV's Catfish UK in 2022.
Rose has successfully diversified her brand across television, live events, and fashion. She has hosted red carpets for the Brit Awards in both 2022 and 2023, appeared on I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! in 2023, and launched a 40-piece summer collection with PrettyLittleThing in June 2022. Her business interests are formalized through Nella Rose Ltd, an active private limited company incorporated on December 27, 2018, which classifies its primary nature of business as artistic creation.
