The man who survived a furnace, a plane crash, and a mid-air helicopter drop
In short: For over thirty-five years, Ridge Forrester has been the eye of the storm in American daytime television. From discovering he wasn't a biological Forrester to surviving a literal fall from a helicopter, his life is a masterclass in soap opera endurance and dramatic reinvention.
Introduced in the 1987 premiere of The Bold and the Beautiful, Ridge Forrester has transitioned from an arrogant playboy to the introspective CEO of the Forrester Creations fashion empire. For much of his history, he believed he was the biological son of Eric Forrester, only to later discover his true paternity lies with shipping tycoon Massimo Marone.
The character's longevity is marked by significant casting shifts. Ronn Moss anchored the role for 25 years, departing in 2012. Following a brief period where the character was simply 'out of the picture,' Thorsten Kaye was cast in October 2013. Kaye's tenure has brought critical prestige to the role, earning him consecutive Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2023 and 2024.
Ridge's personal life is a labyrinth of high-stakes romance and trauma. His history is defined by a legendary, often turbulent tug-of-war between two women: Brooke Logan, the 'true love of his life,' and the psychiatrist Taylor Hayes. These relationships have been complicated by extreme plot developments, including kidnapping, presumed deaths, and even a period where Ridge suffered memory loss and the loss of his ability to draw after being dumped into the Persian Gulf by a helicopter.
Beyond the romance, the character's legacy is tied to the family business. As a talented designer, Ridge has navigated intense corporate rivalries, including power struggles with his brother Rick and the pressure of maintaining the Forrester dynasty amidst shifting family secrets and paternity scandals.
