In short: When a young intern moves to Seoul for work, he chooses a budget-friendly residence called Eden Studio. He expects a simple, albeit low-quality, living space. Instead, he finds himself surrounded by unsettling neighbors and strange, escalating events that force him to question his own safety and sanity in the city.

The 2019 South Korean television production Strangers from Hell, also titled Hell Is Other People, serves as the second entry in OCN's Dramatic Cinema initiative. This project aims to blend the visual and narrative techniques of film with the episodic structure of television. The story draws its inspiration from a Naver Webtoon by Kim Yong-ki, centering on a young man named Yoon Jong-woo who relocates from the countryside to Seoul to begin a new internship.

Jong-woo's financial constraints lead him to Eden Studio, a dormitory that appears affordable but harbors disturbing secrets. The narrative focuses on his interactions with the building's residents, including a seemingly compassionate dentist named Seo Moon-jo who lives in room 304, and the dormitory owner, who masks a dark nature behind a friendly facade. As Jong-woo settles into room 303, he encounters a cast of peculiar characters, such as twin brothers Byeon Deuk-jong and Byeon Deuk-soo, and various other tenants with hidden motives.

The series, which aired from August 31 to October 6, 2019, explores the psychological erosion of its protagonist as he attempts to save enough money to escape the environment. The production process began with an initial script reading in April 2019 in Sangam-dong, Seoul. Starring Yim Si-wan and Lee Dong-wook, the show examines the tension between the protagonist's professional life at his company and the increasingly ominous atmosphere of his home. The supporting cast includes figures like a local policewoman, a detective, and Jong-woo's girlfriend, all of whom become peripherally involved in the unfolding mystery of the dormitory.

The significance of the series lies in its ability to transform a mundane setting—a cheap urban boarding house—into a site of profound dread. By populating the space with characters who defy initial impressions, the show challenges the viewer to distinguish between genuine kindness and calculated malice. It remains a notable example of how webtoon-based adaptations can leverage specific architectural settings to heighten suspense and character-driven horror.
