The sonic architect behind some of pop music's most iconic dance anthems
In short: From remixing The Killers to producing Madonna's massive dance records, Stuart Price has shaped the sound of modern pop. Whether working under his own name or through aliases like Jacques Lu Cont, his signature club-led beats and filtered vocal lines have defined eras of electronic and mainstream music.
Stuart Price, born on 9 September 1977, is a prolific English electronic musician and producer whose influence spans genres. He began his career in the mid-1990s with acts like Zoot Woman and the parodic French persona Jacques Lu Cont, the latter of which leaned into the UK's 1990s French house craze by conducting interviews in French via an interpreter. His early musical output included the 1995 EP Sweet to the Wind. He also released the album Liberation in 1996.
Price is perhaps most distinguished by his long-standing collaboration with Madonna. He served as her musical director for the 2001 Drowned World Tour, the 2004 Re-Invention World Tour, and the 2006 Confessions Tour. His work with her includes the 2005 album Confessions on a Dance Floor and the 2023 Celebration Tour. In 2024, Madonna revealed they were working on a sequel to the 2005 record, titled Confessions II, which was released on 3 July 2026. Price's contributions to her discography extend to co-writing tracks for the American Life album. He also provided remixes for several singles from that era.
His versatility is evidenced by his work with a vast roster of artists, including The Killers, for whom he produced the 2008 album Day & Age and remixed 'Mr. Brightside' under the Thin White Duke alias. He has also produced for Kylie Minogue, Dua Lipa, and Seal. His production style is noted for using club-led beats with arpeggios and riffs, often re-contextualizing non-lyrical content while preserving the original vocal arrangement for a climactic effect. His expertise extends to the 2013 album Electric by New Order. He also contributed to the production of various tracks for the Scissor Sisters.
