In short: When Elsa Jukarainen accepted a marriage proposal from Julius Roas, she expected a political arrangement. Instead, she found herself in a confusing whirlwind where her husband insists he feels no love for her, yet his actions tell a completely different, intensely affectionate story.

The story follows Elsa Jukarainen, a woman from a fallen aristocratic family in the country of Ralt. Her life changes abruptly when she receives a marriage proposal from Julius Roas, the son of a duke. Despite the surprising nature of the offer—given her family's rural background and declining status—Elsa accepts the proposal. However, the wedding day brings a jarring shift in expectations; immediately following the ceremony, Julius's demeanor transforms as he declares his marriage was merely a matter of convenience and that he has no intention of truly loving her.

Despite his cold verbal assertions and the various conditions he imposes on her as his wife, Julius's behavior contradicts his words. While he maintains that the union was driven by political necessity—as he is the son of a close aide to the Prime Minister of Ralt—he begins to shower Elsa with intense adoration. This central tension drives the narrative as Elsa attempts to fulfill her duties as a spouse while simultaneously trying to decipher the true nature of her husband's conflicting emotions.

First appearing in February 2021 via Flex Comix, this manga was created by illustrator Natsu Mizuno and author Kei Misawa. The popularity of the series has grown significantly, with over 2 million copies in circulation reported by February 2026. This success led to a light novel adaptation and an anime television series produced by Zero-G and Grass, which aired on TV Asahi between July and September 2026.
