In short: When Jean White is left penniless after her husband dies in a car crash, she travels to their French cottage to uncover the truth. What follows is a series of investigations in the fictional Sainte Victoire, blending antiques expertise with local intrigue in a show that has become a surprise hit.

The Madame Blanc Mysteries, a British cosy crime drama, follows the life of Jean White, an antiques dealer from Cheshire. After her husband, Rory, dies in a car crash in the fictional village of Sainte Victoire, Jean discovers that her financial assets have been pawned off. This discovery forces her to relocate to her remaining property in France, where she begins to unravel the circumstances surrounding her husband's death, his missing ring, and his secret affair. Along the way, she partners with local figures, including taxi driver Dom and chateau owners Judith and Jeremy, to solve various mysteries.

Created by and starring Sally Lindsay alongside Sue Vincent, the series premiered in October 2021. Despite being set in the South of France—inspired by the real village of Vauvenargues—the show is actually filmed in Malta. Production primarily took place on the island of Gozo, with the village of Sannat serving as the setting for the first series, followed by Għarb in later seasons. The production benefits from a 40% rebate offered by the Malta Film Commission, which has supported the show through its third series.

Critical reception has been varied, reflecting the nature of the cosy crime genre. Some reviewers, such as those at The i Paper, have critiqued the show as undemanding escapism. Conversely, others like Good Housekeeping and Metacritic have praised its warm, inviting atmosphere and the appeal of its ensemble cast. The show has proven popular with audiences, averaging around 2.5 million viewers per episode on Channel 5. Following its initial success, the series has continued to expand, with reports in May 2026 confirming that it has been commissioned for a fifth series.

The production maintains a significant economic footprint in its filming location. For the third series, the total budget reached over €5.3 million, with more than 95% of those funds spent within Malta. The project also provided employment for 107 individuals, the majority of whom were local to the island. This blend of international production and local storytelling has solidified the show's place as a staple of modern British television.
