From university student reporter to Emmy-nominated anchor for Telemundo Deportes
In short: Verónica Rodríguez Cuesta has built a formidable career in sports journalism, moving from student reporting to covering global events like the Summer Olympics and the FIFA World Cup. Now a prominent figure at Telemundo Deportes, she is helping redefine Hispanic sports entertainment while advocating for greater equity in the industry.
Born in Mexico City on 26 March 1987, Verónica Rodríguez Cuesta began her journey in communications at Universidad Iberoamericana, graduating with honors in 2006. Her entry into sports media was sparked by a classmate's invitation to join a university sports program. Following her degree, she gained experience at MVS Televisión and the sports website MedioTiempo before landing a role at Fox Sports Mexico in 2014.
Her tenure at Fox Sports was marked by significant versatility. She hosted various programs, including Fox Para Todos and the wrestling news show WWE Saturday Night. Her reporting spanned diverse disciplines, from Liga MX and Liga MX Feminil to Formula 1 and Formula E. She reported on the UEFA Champions League Final and the 2016 Summer Olympics, subsequently acting as a Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. ambassador.
Beyond the broadcast booth, Rodríguez is a vocal feminist and a co-founder of Versus, a non-profit organization dedicated to combating gender, racial, and class discrimination within sports journalism. This commitment to equity coincides with her rising prominence at Telemundo Deportes. After serving as an interim host for Zona Mixta during the 2022 and 2023 FIFA World Cups, she was signed as a full-time host in February 2024 and named co-host for the daily program El Pelotazo in March 2025.
Rodríguez wed Irish wrestler Fergal Devitt, famously called Finn Bálor, during a secluded Tulum wedding on 19 August 2019. The couple now resides in Orlando, Florida.
