In short: Wesley Hunt’s path to the U.S. House of Representatives involved military service, advanced academic study, and a transition from aviation to politics. After flying Apache helicopters and serving in Iraq, the Republican representative for Texas's 38th district has become a notable figure in the 118th U.S. Congress.

Born in Houston to a military family, Wesley Hunt’s professional journey began with a rigorous education at the United States Military Academy. A Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering and leadership and management was awarded to him in 2004. Following his graduation, he was commissioned into the U.S. Army, where he served as an Apache helicopter pilot. His military service included one deployment to Iraq and two deployments to Saudi Arabia, where he served as a diplomatic liaison officer. He eventually left the army in 2012 at the rank of captain.

Hunt’s academic pursuits continued after his honorable discharge from the military. He completed three separate postgraduate qualifications at Cornell University: a Master of Industrial and Labor Relations, a Master of Public Administration, and a Master of Business Administration. This academic foundation preceded his entry into the political arena. In 2020, he ran for Texas's 7th congressional district, winning the Republican primary with 61% of the vote but ultimately losing the general election to Democrat Lizzie Fletcher.

Since 2023, Hunt has represented Texas's 38th congressional district. His committee assignments within the House include Small Business, Natural Resources, and Judiciary. He currently chairs the Rural Development, Energy, and Supply Chains subcommittee within the Small Business Committee. His political trajectory has seen him support Kevin McCarthy for Speaker and endorse Donald Trump's 2024 campaign. Most recently, on September 14, 2026, President Donald Trump announced his nomination of Hunt to serve as the United States ambassador to Saudi Arabia.
