In short: In 2004, a Dodge Ram SRT-10 achieved the Guinness World Record for the world's fastest production truck. By transplanting a high-performance V10 into a full-size pickup, engineers created a vehicle that defied the traditional limitations of its class, blending brute utility with supercar-level velocity.

The Dodge Ram SRT-10 was born from a collaboration between DaimlerChrysler’s PVO division and engineers from the Dodge Viper and Plymouth Prowler. While Dodge had previously showcased a Viper-powered concept at the 1996 Chicago Auto Show, the production model finally arrived in 2003 as a 2004 model year vehicle. To achieve its performance goals, the truck utilized a 8.3 liter V10—the same engine found in the third-generation Viper—producing 500 bhp at 5,600 rpm and 525 lb⋅ft of torque at 4,200 rpm.

Engineering the SRT-10 required more than just a powerful engine; it necessitated significant structural and aerodynamic modifications. To shape the exterior, engineers conducted thorough wind tunnel trials and installed a bespoke suspension, reducing the front ride height by 1 inch and the rear by 2.5 inches. To manage the massive power, a fifth shock absorber was added to the rear axle specifically to prevent wheel hop during wheel-spin. The truck also featured a unique hood with a wide power bulge and a honeycomb grille scoop designed to facilitate airflow and cooling.

The vehicle's performance varied depending on the cab configuration. The regular cab, weighing 5,130 lb, could reach a top speed of 154 mph and accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds. The heavier Quad Cab, weighing 5,618 lb, reached 147 mph and hit 60 mph in 5.3 seconds. In July 2004, driver Brendan Gaughan set a Guinness World Record for the fastest production truck, averaging 154.587 mph. Over its three-year production lifespan, which ended after 2006, a total of 10,046 units were manufactured.
