The $18 million roller coaster that couldn't save its own park

In short: ArieForce One was meant to be a crowning achievement for Fun Spot America Atlanta. Instead, it became a high-speed monument to the brutal economics of theme park expansion. Despite its record-breaking engineering and awards, the coaster couldn't keep the gates open, leading to a swift sale to a corporate giant.

The project began in 2021 with an ambitious goal: to transform Fun Junction USA—a modest park with go-karts and batting cages—into a major destination. Fun Spot America invested $18 million into ArieForce One, the largest single ride expenditure in the company's history. Rocky Mountain Construction (RMC) engineered the coaster, which boasted a 154-foot lift hill, an 83-degree first drop measuring 146 feet, and America's biggest zero-g stall. It was a technical marvel, earning a top-25 world ranking for steel coasters in its debut year and a prestigious award for its installation.

However, the construction was plagued by logistical hurdles. Supply chain bottlenecks and zoning disputes with Fayette County forced the park to spend an additional $5 million on infrastructure. To satisfy county requirements for drainage and parking, the park had to demolish its own miniature golf course—effectively sacrificing one revenue stream to build another. These delays pushed the opening from 2022 into March 2023, increasing the financial pressure on the operation.

The ultimate irony of ArieForce One lies in its short lifespan at its home park. Despite the massive investment, the Atlanta location could not sustain operations and closed permanently in August 2026. Just weeks later, the coaster was sold to Six Flags. It is scheduled to be relocated and reopened at an undisclosed location between 2028 and 2029, proving that even a world-class attraction cannot overcome a failing business model.
