In short: Before becoming the chairman of The Jim Henson Company, Brian Henson was a teenager mastering complex marionette rigging. From performing as Hoggle in Labyrinth to directing adult-themed puppet variety shows, his career has evolved from a child performer on Sesame Street into a master of puppetry and special effects.

Born on November 3, 1963, in New York City, Brian Henson was raised in the heart of puppetry excellence as the son of Jim and Jane Henson. His journey began in the segments of Sesame Street, but his technical expertise was forged through hands-on labor. At just 17 years old, during a high school summer break, he assisted on the production of The Great Muppet Caper in 1981, where he helped develop a specialized rigging device to make Muppets appear to ride bicycles. He also constructed the initial Muppet penguin puppet for a Season 3 episode of The Muppet Show. This early work demonstrated his innate talent for craftsmanship.

His technical versatility became evident through the 1980s. He portrayed Jack Pumpkinhead within Return to Oz (1985) and served as a primary puppeteer for Audrey II in Little Shop of Horrors (1986), managing the character's mouth. Additionally, he voiced Hoggle within the 1986 film Labyrinth and portrayed the dog in both iterations of The Storyteller (1988 and 1990). Furthermore, he performed marionette work for the rats in The Muppets Take Manhattan. This experience helped him specialise in managing intricate special effects.

As his career progressed, Henson moved into direction and executive production. He directed Muppet films such as The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992) and Muppet Treasure Island (1996), and later directed the adult-oriented puppet crime-comedy The Happytime Murders in 2018. His executive production credits span diverse genres, including the children's series Bear in the Big Blue House (1997–2006) and the science fiction series Farscape (1999–2003). Today, he continues to shape the legacy of his family through his leadership at The Jim Henson Company. His television production work also includes Dinosaurs and The Hoobs. Additionally, he acted as a head judge for Jim Henson's Creature Shop Challenge.
