In this 1983 action comedy, two brawlers accidentally become top-secret CIA agents.
In short: When a charming ventriloquist and a recently released convict meet in a roadhouse, a simple misunderstanding leads them on a wild chase. Mistaken for high-level spies, they find themselves tasked with stopping a megalomaniac from erasing humanity's understanding of numbers. It is a classic case of mistaken identity gone global.
Released in 1983, the Italian action comedy Go for It, originally titled Nati con la camicia, features the iconic film duo Terence Hill and Bud Spencer. The plot kicks off in a roadhouse, where Rosco Frazer, a charming ventriloquist, and Doug O’Riordan, a man imprisoned for sinking a yacht that irritated him, cross paths during a brawl. Their accidental partnership begins when they steal a truck, leading to a series of misunderstandings that eventually land them in the crosshairs of the CIA.
The duo’s transition from petty fugitives to international operatives occurs at an airport. By posing as two passengers named Steinberg and Mason, they inadvertently assume the identities of top CIA agents. Their new handlers, unaware of the switch, provide them with a suitcase containing one million dollars and task them with infiltrating a secret organization in Miami Beach. Under the supervision of their boss, known as Tiger, they are repeatedly pressured to scrub their official reports of any embarrassing details that might reflect poorly on the agency’s staff.
The film’s climax centers on their pursuit of a criminal mastermind known as K1. This villain plans to use a device called the K-Bomb to destroy mankind’s collective knowledge of numbers, threatening to plunge the entire world into absolute chaos. While Rosco and Doug successfully thwart this catastrophic scheme, their reward is underwhelming. Because their handler, Tiger, prematurely returned the million dollars to the government, the duo is left without their financial windfall, ultimately receiving nothing more than a visit to the president for their efforts. The film, shot on location in Miami, Florida, remains a quintessential example of the spy film parody genre.
