In short: Before he became a master of impressions and a fixture in television, Jim Meskimen spent years studying classical painting in Spain and animation in Hollywood. This unique blend of visual artistry and improvisational comedy helped him build a prolific career spanning everything from ThunderCats to viral Shakespearean celebrity voices.

Born in 1959, Jim Meskimen began his creative journey not on a stage, but at a drawing board. After apprenticing at Hanna-Barbera studios in the late 1970s, he pursued a rigorous education in painting and sculpture at the University of California, Santa Cruz. His commitment to the visual arts led him to Spain in 1980 for intensive classical training with Argüello. It was only after a chance encounter with actor Harvey Keitel in 1983 that Meskimen shifted his focus toward acting, moving to New York City to reinvent himself.

In New York, Meskimen’s background in animation and illustration proved invaluable. He secured work designing characters for the original ThunderCats series and contributed to its story bible. During these years, he also immersed himself in the world of improvisational theater, performing hundreds of shows with the company INTERPLAY. This dual expertise in character design and live improv eventually paved the way for his transition into voice acting, where he became a recognizable voice for brands like Swatch and Comedy Central, and later, the voice of the Genie in Disney's Aladdin franchise.

Meskimen’s career is defined by a remarkable range. He has appeared in numerous feature films directed by Ron Howard, including Apollo 13 and The Grinch, while simultaneously building a massive portfolio in voiceover work for video games and animation. His viral YouTube success, Shakespeare in Celebrity Voices, showcased his ability to synthesize his comedic timing with his deep character study, eventually leading to a celebrated performance on America's Got Talent in 2013. Whether directing complex multi-cast audiobooks or playing recurring television roles, Meskimen remains a testament to the power of a multidisciplinary creative education.
