In short: When a massive cyber attack compromises every active British intelligence operative, the government is forced to recall a retired agent. Now a schoolteacher, he relies on outdated methods and a classic sports car to confront a tech billionaire who threatens to hold the world's internet infrastructure for ransom.

In the 2018 spy comedy Johnny English Strikes Again, directed by David Kerr, the titular character is pulled from his quiet life as a geography teacher after a cyber attack exposes the identities of all active MI7 agents. Rowan Atkinson reprises his role as the bumbling spy, who insists on partnering with his former colleague, Jeremy Bough. The duo eschews modern digital tools, opting instead for vintage equipment and a 1977 Aston Martin V8 Vantage—a vehicle personally owned by Atkinson—to track the source of the breach to a yacht in France.

The investigation leads them to Jason Volta, a Silicon Valley billionaire who plans to extort G12 leaders by threatening to disable global internet access. Despite his lack of technological prowess, English inadvertently thwarts Volta's plans through a series of chaotic accidents. These include a disastrous virtual reality simulation, a botched attempt to record evidence on a smartphone, and a final confrontation involving a medieval suit of armor and a tablet used as a projectile. The climax involves an accidental missile launch from a Royal Navy submarine, which is redirected by a tracking device English had previously planted on the villain's yacht.

While the film received mixed critical reception, with a 37% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it proved to be a commercial success. Produced on a budget of $25 million, the movie grossed $159 million worldwide. Despite the financial performance, Atkinson has expressed doubt regarding future installments, though he has not definitively ruled out the possibility of returning to the character. The production, which filmed in locations including France, Hertfordshire, and Gloucestershire, serves as the third entry in the franchise, following the 2011 sequel Johnny English Reborn.
