How Mick Wingert became the voice behind iconic heroes and animated legends
In short: Born in 1974, Mick Wingert has spent over two decades mastering the art of voice acting. From stepping into the shoes of Jack Black as Master Po to portraying the brilliant Heimerdinger in Arcane, Wingert has built a prolific career that spans animation, video games, and major Marvel productions.
Mick Wingert began his professional journey in 2000, the same year he relocated to Southern California. A graduate of California State University, where he studied theater and mass communication, Wingert initially cut his teeth in the industry by providing voice-over work for local and regional advertising campaigns. This foundational experience in commercial voice-over eventually paved the way for a diverse career in character acting across various media platforms.
Wingert is perhaps best known for his ability to step into established roles, often earning acclaim for his precision. He notably took over the role of Master Po in Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, where fans praised his accurate impression of Jack Black. He continued to voice Po across various video games and the series Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny. Similarly, he took over the role of Iron Man from Adrian Pasdar for the Avengers Assemble animated series, a character he has since reprised in numerous Marvel projects, including the animated series What If...?, where he voices the Marvel Cinematic Universe incarnation of Tony Stark.
Beyond his work in the Marvel universe, Wingert has lent his voice to a wide array of projects, including the Netflix series Arcane, where he portrayed Heimerdinger from 2021 to 2024. His extensive resume also includes roles in video games such as Mass Effect 2, Titanfall 2, and Super Mario Bros. Wonder, where he voiced the Talking Flowers. Despite sharing a surname with fellow voice actor Wally Wingert, the two are not related. Wingert, who was married to Shawna Scott Barnhart from 2011 until their divorce, continues to be a prominent figure in the voice-over industry, balancing his work as a performer with his role as a voice-over coach.
