In short: After graduating from Barden University, the Bellas find themselves adrift in unfulfilling jobs. A USO tour offers a chance to reunite, but the stakes shift from a cappella competition to international intrigue when Fat Amy’s criminal father emerges, forcing the group to trade vocal harmonies for a daring rescue mission.

Released in December 2017, Pitch Perfect 3 serves as the conclusion to the musical comedy trilogy. Directed by Trish Sie with a script by Kay Cannon and Mike White, the film follows the Barden Bellas as they transition into adulthood. While the characters initially struggle with post-college life, an invitation to a USO tour brings them together for one last performance. The production, which filmed in Atlanta, Georgia, as well as locations in Spain and France, features the core ensemble cast alongside new additions like John Lithgow and DJ Khaled.

The narrative takes a sharp turn from the series' usual collegiate competition format. Fat Amy discovers that her estranged father, Fergus, is a ruthless international crime lord attempting to seize a $180 million offshore account. When the Bellas are kidnapped and held on Fergus' yacht, the group must rely on their wits and a performance of 'Toxic' to distract their captor while Amy orchestrates an escape. This subplot adds a layer of action-thriller stakes to the musical foundation of the franchise.

Despite mixed critical reception—with many reviewers finding it less compelling than its predecessors—the film was a commercial success, grossing $185 million worldwide against a $45 million budget. It remains the second-highest grossing musical comedy of all time, trailing only Pitch Perfect 2. By the film's end, the characters find personal resolution: Beca advances her career, Chloe enters veterinary school, and the group reaffirms their bond, ultimately choosing to move forward as individuals while remaining connected as a family.
