Beyond its primary narrative, the series has become a cornerstone of modern Star Wars lore. Its influence extends into recent live-action projects, such as the Disney+ series Ahsoka, which functions as a direct continuation of the Rebels storyline. The show was critically recognized for its quality, becoming the first animated series to win a Saturn Award for Best Animated Series on Television, an honor it achieved for its final two seasons.

The production underwent significant leadership changes, with Dave Filoni serving as an executive producer and supervising director for much of the run.
