In short: Kim Woo-jin didn't just master the bow; he redefined the limits of Olympic success. By securing five gold medals, he surpassed every previous record to become South Korea's most successful athlete in any sport, proving that precision is a marathon of endurance.

Kim Woo-jin's ascent to the pinnacle of archery is marked by a unique trajectory of resilience. Although he secured individual gold at the 2012 FITA Archery World Cup and the 2011 World Archery Championships, the 2012 Korean Olympic squad omitted him. Rejoining the national side in 2015, he became a constant frontrunner and the first male since 1985 to double as a World Archery Championships victor. His technical specifications are as precise as his results: Kim is right-handed, utilizing 30-inch arrows and a draw weight of 46 pounds. This physical output translated into a historic performance at the Rio 2016 Olympics, where he set a world record in the men's individual qualifying round with a score of 700 out of 720.

Although he suffered a major upset in the second round of that individual event, he secured a team gold, beginning a streak of dominance. By the Paris 2024 Games, Kim achieved a milestone that places him in a rarefied category of sporting history. He won his third consecutive individual gold medal, following a tense tiebreaker against American Brady Ellison. This victory brought his total to five Olympic gold medals, surpassing the previous record of four held by Kim Soo-nyung. Furthermore, his success in the team event made him one of only two athletes to achieve three consecutive team gold medals in archery, cementing his legacy as a cornerstone of South Korean sporting achievement.
