The 2025–26 season represents a period of profound transition for Leicester City. After a remarkable Premier League title in 2015–16, the club suffered a catastrophic 2024–25 campaign. A record-breaking -47 goal difference marked their end, as they allowed 80 goals—a top-flight maximum. Statistically, it was their worst 38-game Premier League season on record, amassing only 25 points. Following a 2–2 stalemate with Hull City on 21 April, the club dropped into League One for a second time ever.
The club's identity is also shifting. This season marks the first since 2011–12 that the club will not feature Jamie Vardy, who departed after 13 seasons and 200 goals. His exit signifies the end of an era, as Leicester no longer has any players remaining from the 2015–16 title-winning squad. To lead this new chapter, Martí Cifuentes was appointed as manager on 15 July 2025, replacing Ruud van Nistelrooy, who stepped down on 27 June 2025.
The summer transfer window saw a significant overhaul of the roster. The club offloaded high-profile assets, including Mads Hermansen to West Ham United for £20,000,000 and Wilfred Ndidi to Beşiktaş for £8,000,000. Meanwhile, they secured new arrivals like goalkeeper Asmir Begović and Fran Vieites. Despite these changes, the early Championship campaign has been inconsistent; while they won three of their first five league games in August, they endured a month of September where they drew all four matches, leaving them in 6th place by the end of the month.
